It all begins with an idea.
X-Lab is the new ventures arm of X-Eureka. We are developing technologies that can increase the efficiency of solar cells.
Silicon solar cells are reaching their maximum theoretical efficiency. New semiconductors with different energy band gaps can be stacked on top of existing solar cells to convert a larger portion of the sunlight to electricity.
Two of the most promising categories of new materials are perovskites and chalcogenides. However, the former contains heavy metals and degrades rapidly, while the latter’s efficiency is limited by defects.
In collaboration with the ACAP (Australian Centre for Advanced Photovoltaics) and UNSW, we are developing a chalcogenide perovskite that is non-toxic, highly stable and defect-tolerant.
